Achey from Raking

This time of year we want to be carving pumpkins, picking apples, sipping cider, and leaf-peeping. But at some point, we’ve got to rake the yard and sweep up leaves that work their way into the house

Since raking only has to be done once a year our body isn’t always in shape for it, and we can get sore during or after. Luckily the very tool making us sore (that rake) can help us do some great stretches.

Try the chest opener, side bend, and standing cat stretch in the video below.

And if you want to add a few warm-up moves before you start raking, do some marches trying to tap the rake with your thighs.

Household items like a rake or a broom can become your friend. Use them to your advantage. They can actually deepen the sensation of certain stretches in a beneficial way. Try for yourself:

Carving for a Cause Charity Pumpkin Patch

Personal Euphoria is hosting the third Carving for a Cause Charity Pumpkin Patch

Carving for a Cause Charity Pumpkin Patch was designed to highlight our local creativity, bring joy to our community, and raise money for a local charity. Personal Euphoria began sponsoring this event when, in the midst of COVID, we all needed a little glimmer of joy. Due to its popularity, we are continuing the event.

This year will have 3 winners.

All are welcome to participate by dropping off a carved pumpkin at 400 Hartford Ave, Wethersfield, CT on Saturday or Sunday, October 21 or 22, 2023. Please submit name/email/phone number/picture of your pumpkin to PEPumpkins@gmail.com to officially register your pumpkin. Please write your name on the back of your pumpkin with a sharpie. Place your pumpkin as close to the garage as possible. Note: any carvings deemed offensive will not be displayed.

Others can join the fun by voting throughout the week. Simply click this link to vote. One vote per person. Votes will be collected through Halloween night at 10 pm and then tallied. Personal Euphoria […]

Plank Story: A Scarlet Macaw for Halloween

Pirate and a Scarlet Macaw, well, maybe. Pirate and a Scarlet Macaw, well, maybe.

I’d only left three days to plan my Halloween costume this year.  So on a whim I decided Matt could be a pirate—a costume we basically had—and I could be a parrot.  In my mind I was going to be a beautiful parrot, red like a scarlet macaw.  I hunted on Pinterest for easy ways to transform myself into the spectacular bird.

Then I placed an order on amazon for red, orange, yellow and aqua boas (these would be my wings and feathers); a red bird mask and beak (the don’t sell parrot beaks); a rainbow-colored feather wig and a red unitard.  I had my doubts about the unitard as any sane person should, but I figured I could pull it off with everything else for one night.

All the costume parts arrived the day of the party with little time for adjustments.  I attempted to get myself into the unitard, and I can’t quite express how bad it was.  It was tight, shiny and somehow didn’t fit anywhere.  Important parts couldn’t fit in it, my back didn’t even make […]

Halloween Fun Comes Cheap

This weekend was a perfect fall weekend and Matt and I took full advantage. We bought some pumpkins and carved them. I’ve done pumpkins since I was a kid, but I certainly don’t do them every year, which is too bad because it was so much fun.

Plus, now that our jack o’ lanterns are hanging out on our front step, the house looks a little more alive, and I feel a little more in the spirit of a Halloween. Whatever we do that brings us joy is good for the mind and body. So if you’d enjoy carving pumpkins this year, I really recommend trying to make time for it. Not to mention, it’s such cheap fun. We got three perfect pumpkins at Bob’s on the Berlin Turnpike in Wethersfield for $18.
