Movement can be fun, playful, & silly

Feeling sluggish, hot, & tired?  Let’s blame it on the previous year we all survived living with and in COVID-19.  And now, as we step out of the tunnel into the light, let’s find tools to help ourselves.  Here are some tips from Maggie at Personal Euphoria:

Have you been feeling sluggish?

You aren’t alone. It’s guesstimated that we put on 2lbs a month (on average) this year. I know I put on 8 and my doctor told me that was less than half what she’d seen this year. It can feel disheartening and putting on weight that quickly can slow you down. But you can make a change at any time. You can say, “Enough is enough. I’m getting back on track.” And this time of year is the easiest and best time of year to do so.

Get outside. Take walks. Exercise doesn’t have to be grueling. If you feel like you’ve fallen behind where you were a year ago, give yourself time to get back to where you want to be. These changes didn’t happen overnight (though it may have felt that way a bit this year).

And be gentle with yourself. We can so easily fall into negative self-talk. Your body is not what or who makes you a good person. We want healthy bodies so that we can live longer and healthier lives. We want to feel good. But our bodies do not define us.

PE Option: If you’ve been feeling sluggish, we recommend you try one of these on demand (or sign up for a virtual live version) classes:

Our Yoga: if you need to feel a little more centered
Our Full Body Refresh: if you feel stiff and want to move every thing in ways that feel good
Our HIIT: If you like an intense workout and are willing to modify and you get back into the groove
Our Strength classes: Because building and maintaining muscle is important to our overall health.

Feeling Tired?

Maybe you didn’t sleep as well this year. Maybe you’ve never slept well. Sleep is really important so it is worth some of your attention. I’m not a great sleeper so I’m always on the lookout for a good tool or tip that helps me sleep. I think it’s something we all need to experiment with a little and see what works for us.

Perhaps try an Epsom salt bath before bed. I need to workout in the morning. If I work out to late in the day it energizes me so much I can’t fall asleep. (But that can also be a tool. Feel yourself fading midday? Take a walk to boost your energy.) Try deep breaths focusing on a longer exhale. Our exhale puts us in more of a relaxed state.

Feeling Hot?

Holy Moly! We’ve been hitting temps in the 90’s since May! Need to cool off? Why not find a place to go for a swim (you’ll be moving and keeping cool). Also, remember to hydrate. It gets harder to stay hydrated as we get older and we don’t notice we are depleted as easily either. It’s like our thirst sensor diminishes a bit. So keep water nearby. Start the day with a class of water. Pour a water for your workout and drink it when you finish, even if you don’t feel thirsty. Find little tricks that work for you to stay hydrated. It matters for all the tissues in our body.
