I’m one of those people that likes seeing the calories listed on menus. I wouldn’t mandate it, but the more information the better. Sometimes if I’m debating between two meals the calorie listing could be the deciding factor. But recently I read that the calories restaurants post may not be accurate. I was disappointed, but not too surprised.
It turns out, according to a study by the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging that most food items actually have 10 more calories than the menu claims, but 19% of the food items had at least 100 calories more. So next time you go to a restaurant ask them how accurate the calorie count is. Either way, assume you are getting 100 more and you should be safe.
