Made in America: Your Holiday Shopping Guide

I was really impressed by this website and story by ABC News. It turns out that the average American spends $700 on Christmas gifts. If each person spent $64 of those dollars on an American made gift, according to economist it would create 200,000 jobs.

From the ABC Made in America website you can search for goods made in America in your state. Connecticut’s list wasn’t very extensive, but I’m pretty sure if more businesses hear about it, they can add themselves to the list somehow.

And while I don’t know if it officially counts, what if instead of buying a good you bought a gift certificate from a small local vendor. It seems to me a service could create a job as well as a good. You could pick a local restaurant, pilates or yoga studio, even a local movie theater, especially a small one like the Parkade in Machester.
