Get to Know Our Instructors

If you aren’t getting our e-newsletter, you don’t know that we have been highlighting our instructors. So far, we have highlighted Katy and Jeannine. Here’s some interesting factoids about them.

During the summer when she is not teaching, there are two places you are sure to find Katy: by her pool reading a book (under an umbrella and wearing SPF 45 of course) and out exploring new running routes in her town! With a huge love for running, the summer becomes Katy’s training time for her fall races. Having completed a half marathon last fall, she hopes to run another one this fall along with some other road races in the area. She incorporates Pilates into her training to help strengthen her core and stretch out her sore limbs. Katy is also a recent graduate from the University of Connecticut with a degree in Psychology. Favorite Pilates Exercise: Swan Dive Favorite Ice Cream: Moose Tracks (vanilla ice cream with bits of fudge and peanut butter cups) Dream Vacation: A tour of Italy Running Aspiration: Hopes to one day run the New York City Marathon

Jeannine began participating in Pilates as a way to help her become a stronger dancer, another favorite activity of hers. An avid dancer, Pilates has helped strengthen her core and key muscles for dancing while also keeping her limber. Her flexibility is a great inspiration to stay with Pilates! Besides her love for dance and Pilates, Jeannine is an extraordinary lady with a wide range of activities. When she is not teaching, Jeannine can be found in her garden where she shapes her bonsai trees. She also loves to travel, write, and photography. A fun tidbit about Jeannine is she once wore ballet slippers in the boots of her fire suit while racing a top fuel dragster! If you’re in one of her classes, make sure to ask her about it! Jeannine is also a hockey mom of two sons, one who is currently serving with the U.S. Army’s First Cavalry Division. She currently teaches classes in Portland, Middletown, Newington, Rocky Hill, and at Wesleyan University. Motto: “Dance as if no one is watching” Favorite place to get ice cream: Rob’s of Glastonbury Favorite house pet: Bunnies

Thank you for giving your time to stop and read my blog. I hope it encourages you to keep moving. Move and the body will be happier. And when you're moving you can hike, run, swim in Jell-O, race over non-Newtonian fluids, travel the world or build igloos--if that's your thing. If not, you can watch me do it. This is just a spot to try and feel good about life.
