When we hear or see this quote by Joseph Pilates it’s easy to let our mind imagine great possibilities. I do believe that training in Pilates provides the body wonderful possibilities in strength, awareness and balance, but we have to understand the intention.
Pilates said this assuming people would take classes at least three times a week. It also doesn’t mean that if I take 30-Pilates classes I am suddenly going to look like Jennifer Aniston (substitute anyone’s body you admire). It means that in 30 days my body (emphasis on the MY) is going to be new. I’ll have a different understanding of my body. I’ll have reshaped my own body. We all have the bodies we were given. No matter how much we do Pilates, I’ll never be six feet tall.
If I’m committed to Pilates, I’ll get a whole new body, but it will still be mine.
