When I was a kid I remember that I dreaded giving something up for lent. Sometimes it was a good exercise when I gave up candy or television, but when I opted to try and do something nice everyday instead of giving something up I was much happier.
You don’t have to celebrate lent to try to do something nice for someone every day for a few weeks. Studies show that doing good for others actually makes you feel better. It’s a win-win. It’s easier if you commit to picking one thing to do every day–something that will make you and someone else feel good. Here are some suggestions:
1) Call a friend just to say hello.
2) Write someone an actual letter–a postcard length will do.
3) Volunteer somewhere for a cause you believe in.
4) Make something and give it someone for no reason.
